Why @thundercatmusic loves @louiscolemusic with LOUIS COLE
I think that the heavy influence of the Melvins explains alot about his writing.
A friend of mine played cello in the string section on this (he also played on 'Play Dead'). He told me this story: It was a Sunday morning and a bunch of jaded (possibly hungover) classical musos turn up at a London studio to do a session. They set up and ask 'where are the charts?' Bjork appears, apologises that her co-producer (Nelee Hooper?) can't make it. She tells them that she has a clear idea of what she wants, but needs help to write it out properly. The classical folk shuffle in their seats - there are rolling eyes and heavy sighs. These string players have seen it all before, and this scenario rarely ends well.... She sits down at the piano with the leader, and spends an hour (with the musos on the clock) singing ideas to him. He scribbles down her ideas, and runs to the photocopier. Still cynical, the string folk start playing these charts to the track, conducted by Bjork herself. It worked a treat - more or less what you hear on the record. Having a post - recording cigarette, they congratulate the section leader Gavin Wright for 'rescuing the session' and encourage him to push for an arrabgement credit. Wright shrugs his shoulders and says 'every note you played came from Bjork herself - I was just the copyist'. The string players left the studio that day with a new-found respect for the wierd foreign girl....
I wondered how they played the guitar, I can tell it was tuning and multiple guitars. Amazing song.
If they are a joke then Journey is a laughing stock!!!
Having been a Björk-fan since I was 12 going through period of being totally not-listening-to-anything-else-teenage-obsession, to okey-i'll-listen-to-the-artists-who-have-collaborated-with-björk-or-remixed-her tracks ...haha...it is so strange to me how you cannot have known about björk before haha....Today I listen a lot to the artists included in Björks Dj:sets haha
Thanks for the on-screen definitions! Helps for people who dont know the technical stuff!
George was the most musically educated, in a certain way. I believe he was the only one who could read music
PER NARADA WALDEN tommy/leaene MET IN CNN BOARD ROOM...TO STRATEGIZE HOW TO TAKE DOWN MARIAH CAREY....VICIOUS, MALICIOUS STALKING DEMISE IS STILL A LIFE ENDANGERMENT TO MARIAH AND FAMILY......A MENTALLY UNSTABLE
listening to their conversation makes me feel dumb, but i enjoyed that they all agree what they are talking about, and im happy. Charles what is happening there... charles "YES"
Theo thank you for sharing your music and heart with the world ❤ Taylor kicks ss!
No demo of Paul’s syncopation? SHAMEFUL.
That was really great.
More stuff to Colonize Isn’t there Any white ppl music you could listen to and pull apart What is White ppl obsession with black ppl! I neeeeeed that answer!
Its repetetive motions, you get use to the world you're put in, then a small change brings out how tranced you've been. Composing and mixing like it was electronic music, with instruments.... tomorrow's music. Trance moments are always graceful when a change rises you. Love your talk guys! (DJ Stormbass / LeRobot)
is this an interrogation?
best guests ever! thanks!
Narada is such a legend that I’m also speechless now.
I could listen to Narada talk all day long!!!
I don't know what yr talking about..but as long as it sounds good .
Can anybody tell me, what song is playing in the background in the intro? 0:17 It sounds incredibly familiar but I cannot find it.
Mariah is one of the best vocalists I've ever heard. Her contribution to music is undeniable! However, she often receives unfair criticism, and some people are turned off by the diva persona she has created and hides behind in public. Regardless, she's my musical idol. ❤
Great interview, and I especially loved hearing Joe Gore talk about music theory.
She’s a goddess
Disclaimer: the last ten minutes or so is harmony theory porn.
@ 19:17 I bought this album when it was first released but... I never noticed the nudge to Chuck Berry in the first bars before. Then he totally Jimifies it. Great performance, from a great band. My favourite Jimi album is Axis. Bought it cheap from a buddy who, at first, didn't get the message. Boy, did he regret that. So much dynamics in every aspect of the music, including the tempos. Everything sounds like a human voice telling a very interesting story. Thank you for bringing back the memories 𝄢🎶
Not a rip off, he obviously loves the 80s and was brave to produce this style. When I first heard the first track I was thinking I don’t remember this one from the 80s? He’s brilliant
That vocal is definitely compressed in
Do we even listen to the same song lyrics?
I once came across a comment about Mariah Carey saying: "It's easier to find another earth than to find another Mariah" and what can I say, it's true. This lady is talented beyond belief and her voice in my humble opinion has the perfect timbre and tone. The unmistakable beauty of her sound and how colourful and powerful her voice can be....in this department Mariah has no equals. The only other female singer that comes to my mind with a comparable ability to display various sound within one voice was Maria Callas in the operatic genre. Mariah is the full package artist with her instrument, craft, perfect ear, ability to produce melody and text. People mostly do not acknowledge her out of envy, as she is so ridiculously gifted. But her life was no fairytale and she worked her behind off to get where she is. She respects people before her and after her. She is a class artist and definitely my favourite voice and singer. She's family.
Rory Gallagher is my no1 just my opinion I love jimi too
I did not expect the discussion of medieval harmony!
As a drummer, I love this video.
While you’re on the Vespertine kick, I always really thought the closer Unison was a cherry on top of that album and kind of overlooked.
FYI, just because Bjork is singing about wondering about jumping off the cliff doesn’t make it a song ABOUT suicide… if that makes sense. Thinking about something doesn’t make it an intention and Bjork is always thinking about things that may be considered dark, but then again, her work is also always deeply imbued with hope, wonder, awe, love and happiness. She has that deep nature (Icelandic) connection in most of her work (exhibited in film roles like The Juniper Tree and The Northman). Like an honoring of the ancient animistic cultures of the past (she sings a lot about goddesses, etc).
glad I tuned in!
The Busiest man in show business played 365 days a year in his prime always insisted that everybody in the band was dressed to the nines.. if you watch him live when he turns and signals a five to the band they were getting fined 5 dollars nothin like the nasty groove
That was brilliant! I will definitely check out Joe's new record and his book. I'm a big fan of those 2 Oranj Symphonette records. Ralph Carney R.I.P.
"Welcome to... to me." - Jack Stratton
Anyone on this panel gonna at least attempt to give historical context of black artists blatantly ripped off for decades in this discussion of artists freedom? 🤔
The clip with the waffle made me think of the drummer in CLOWN CORE!? What an insane contrast. If he is the guy, my silence can be bought..... LOL
I think the panning you pointed out was because they mixed initially for mono play back and that Left Right separation wouldn’t be heard.
Umm when did Whitney get mad? Stop lol they both got beautiful voices.
Good lord. Ask a question and let the guy answer. You should NEVER be talking more than your guest.
Yeah: XO. Great songs, melodies, harmonies and lyrics!Every instrument sounds so beautiful in the mix of that album. Beautiful.
Awesome interview with Jim.
I was certain from the title it was gonna be that studio version of killing floor
Waits muzak is very puerile!
Intellectual overthinking vs. feeling. Wild for such great musicians like yourself who feel so improvisational in performance.
Just discovered this channel and it's wonderful. Love the terminology inserts and curious to see if every video ends up rediscovering "feel" - the heartbeat that's missing in so much of our auto-generated contemporary music.
I clicked despite the_HELLA_ weak "collab" 'word' in the thumbnail. Grew to loathe that thanks to an Oreo commercial they ran to death.
